Find answers to common questions about Connection Road and the Photo Companion app.
Getting Started
How do I sign up for Connection Road?
Visit connectionroad.com and tap "Register" to create a free account. You will need an email address to sign up. Once registered, you can connect your cloud storage (like Dropbox or OneDrive) and start creating photo albums to share.
What is the Photo Companion app?
This app is a companion viewer for Connection Road. It lets you view shared photo and video galleries with a fast, native iOS experience including pinch-to-zoom, smooth scrolling, and full-screen viewing. It is designed for viewing albums that have been shared with you.
Do I need an account to use the companion app?
No. The companion app does not require a login or account. It works by opening share links that gallery owners create on the Connection Road website. Anyone with a share link can view the photos in the app without signing in.
Using the App
How do I view a shared album?
When someone shares a Connection Road gallery link with you (for example, via text message or email), tap the link on your iPhone. If you have the Photo Companion app installed, it will open directly in the app. The album will then appear in your "Recent Albums" list on the home screen for easy access later.
What are Demo Albums?
Demo Albums are sample galleries included in the app so you can explore the viewing experience without needing a share link. They show real photos and let you try out features like pinch-to-zoom and folder browsing. No account or link is needed to view them.
Can I upload or edit photos from the companion app?
No. The companion app is a viewer only. To create albums, upload photos, manage your cloud storage, or generate share links, use the Connection Road web application at connectionroad.com. The companion app is specifically designed for the best possible viewing experience on your iPhone.
Why did an album disappear from Recent Albums?
Albums appear in Recent Albums after you open their share link. If a gallery owner revokes or changes a share link, the album may no longer be accessible. You can also clear your history from the home screen. The app stores up to 20 recent albums.
Privacy and Security
Why doesn't the companion app require a login?
The companion app uses anonymous share links to access galleries. This means you never need to create an account or provide personal information to view photos that have been shared with you. The share link itself acts as your access key. Gallery owners control who has access by managing their share links on the website.
What data does the companion app store?
The app stores a list of recently viewed galleries (up to 20) on your device so you can quickly return to them. It also caches thumbnail images locally for faster loading. No personal information is collected or sent to our servers. Thumbnail and display images are temporarily cached on our servers for performance but are not permanently stored. You can clear all stored data at any time using the "Clear History" button on the home screen.
